Hi, I’m Helen! 👋

Originally from South London, I now live in St Albans, with my husband, 2 grown-up children and our cat!

I was always a big reader as a child, and early on developed a love for language and literature. Later, this led to me completing a degree in English and Human Science.

Throughout my life, I have developed an interest in working with a variety of different people—from various age ranges/groups, a diversity of cultures and with many differences/abilities.

Later on, I completed an MA in Social Work, and I worked as a social worker for over 17 years.

These two strands of my interests have come together recently, and I'm starting a new chapter.

My working ethos and teaching style:

I am sensitive to individual needs and I undertake my work in a friendly but professional manner. I am very much a believer in equality and approach difference in a positive way, with an interest in varying cultures and ways of life. 

We can incorporate your individuality into your studies, as I am committed to tailoring my lessons to your interests and needs- some examples where your hobbies could be included;

Outings to galleries or museums, listening to music, lessons based on TV shows/ films, talking about pets and so on. 

Please speak to me about how we can manage to meet your needs, whether it's disability, access to technology, sensory issues or different ways of learning; I will do my best to find a way to support you. I am aware that individuals have different learning styles, we can discover these together and incorporate them into the lessons.

Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)

By setting myself up as an independent TEFL teacher, I can encompass both of these interests and skills that I have developed over the years.

Recently, I have been looking for a new direction work-wise, and feel that teaching TEFL is a rewarding and interesting path to take.

I am also offering a proofreading/editing service.
